I heard rustling in the brush, and I spotted this beautiful little golden-crowned sparrow. He was hopping back and forth, kicking leaves aside to expose seeds for his lunch. I smiled, feeling his delight as he uncovered morsel after morsel.
Thoroughly enjoying himself, he reminded me of the joyous young children I’ve met while wandering. The small beings in the natural world and in the human world inspire me. What a treasure they are as they live life from a place of innocence and curiosity and awe.
I suspect children and animals know things we adults have long forgotten. Perhaps in their imaginative and deep-hearted ways, they are doorways to joy…just waiting for us to step through.
And I’m very grateful to them all for the invitation…
