Watching this beautiful sachem skipper butterfly, I couldn’t help but smile. I love nature’s small beings.
As the little butterfly flitted among the plants, I had a remembering of another small being. A young girl I met on a trail. Her expression was serious as she stopped to show me something.
Cradling her hat in her hands, she revealed small feathers she had collected along the path.
She was certain the bird who had lost the feathers was just up ahead. And he was cold. Her plan was to return the feathers to the shivering little bird.
Her father and I exchanged smiles…such innocent kindness.
