This tree frog was so well camouflaged I nearly missed him. Animals depend on camouflage to protect themselves from predators. Watching the little frog blend into his surroundings triggered a thought. We humans are good at camouflage as well.
In our desire to fit in and be accepted by others, we sometimes choose to blend into the background. Perhaps we hide behind a forced smile or remain silent to avoid conflict.
As I’ve gotten older and perhaps a bit wiser, I am much more willing to speak my truth. But there are still times when I watch myself don my camouflage. Perhaps it’s the remnants of younger parts of me, the parts that are shy and hesitant for fear of looking foolish.
I suspect it’s all part of being human. I’ve heard it said that we spend our younger years trying to fit in, and our older years trying to stand out.
Such an interesting journey…
